Last week was very busy. I made a long list of things that had to get done... and was able to accomplish most of them! I could feel this wanting-to-speed-things-up energy inside; I had to remind myself to take it one step at a time, get plenty of rest, and practice good self-care. The last Quarter Moon energy felt very much connected to all of this.
This week's headline items: On Tuesday, the Sun changes signs from Capricorn to Aquarius and the New Moon in Aquarius becomes exact; Mercury comes to a halt on Wednesday (beginning a 3-week retrograde) and its station ends on Sunday.
There will also be three Moon VoC phases this week: Monday morning (for 26 hours), Wednesday evening (for 11 hours), and Friday morning (for 26.5 hours).
Monday: the Moon remains in practical, accomplishment-oriented Capricorn all day. It will journey there until Tuesday morning. The Capricorn Moon emphasizes our need for structure and forward planning. We are motivated by a desire for success; achievement and manifestation are paramount.
We are resourceful and pursue economy with time, energy, and other resources. We take things more seriously during Moon in Capricorn: we look reality in the eye. This can be a very productive period. As best as you can, avoid "should-ing" on yourself. Take the pressure off: try saying "I am doing the best I can and that's all I can ever do" ;-)
Saturn (ruler of Capricorn) is transiting through Sagittarius right now, making this a great time to explore our beliefs. It's also a great time to focus on the greater meaning of life and for going beyond conditioned thinking structures. As best as you can, be authentic about what you believe: Do your beliefs actually match your direct experience of life -- as it is for you now, not how it was 5 or 10 years ago?
Monday starts with a strong focus on accomplishing things and getting down to business. As best as you can, refrain from getting too obsessed with anything... Take some breaks ;-)
At 5:51am EST, we enter a 26-hour Moon void of course (VoC) which ends at 7:57am EST (Tuesday morning). This is an intuitive time, use it to nurture what you are building long-term and what you feel most passionate about. As always during VoC, take it easy -- go with the flow and avoid starting anything brand-new. Routine tasks work very well during this time. It also helps planning your day ahead of time.
A Venus/Jupiter opposition will be exact at 8:44am EST. We started to feel this aspect from Saturday on; it will be strong until Wednesday evening of next week. This is asking us to find an inner and outer balance between two apparently conflicting pulls: Our connection to future visions (i.e. making the world a better place for all of us), and our need for fun activities and creative self-expression.
We have a tendency to overestimate our personal capabilities right now: We want to do (and be) more than is actually possible right now. In the same spirit, we might also have a tendency to live beyond our means.
As you can see, we need to watch out for feeling overly-optimistic or -enthusiastic. Moderation is the keyword, with regard to both finances and our affections: Check your bank account... and keep it real ;-) As best as you can, find a balance between your head and your heart.
Do you have your Ascendant, Career Point (or personal planets) in 17-23 degrees of Aquarius, Leo, Taurus or Scorpio? If so, you will feel this aspect quite strongly. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Taurus, Libra or Sagittarius (Venus is the ruler of Taurus and Libra; Jupiter is the ruler of Sagittarius).
A Mars/Neptune alignment in Pisces will be exact at 7:08pm EST. We started to feel this aspect from Thursday evening on; it will be strong until Friday of next week. This might contribute to feeling either a lack of physical energy, or a need to connect to spiritual or creative endeavors. As best as you can, be patient with your energy levels for this coming week; go with the flow whenever you can, and, just for now, see what is would feel like to let go of wanting to be "the first and the best".
This is definitely a highly imaginative time. The highest vibration of this aspect is idealistic, highly intuitive and romantic; on a lower level vibration, it's about not seeing reality clearly or wanting to avoid it, as it may be to painful to accept as it is. We might get confused or disappointed; things might seem a little foggy. Check in with others when creating new goals for yourself during this transit: get reality checks!
Remember: the more we fight against any energy pattern, the more we will experience its lowest vibration. As best as you can, let go and let flow ;-)
Do you have your Ascendant, Career Point (or personal planets) in 3-9 degrees of Pisces, Virgo, Gemini or Sagittarius? If so, you will be more affected by this alignment. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Aries or Pisces (Mars is the ruler of Aries, so those folks will always be affected more strongly by Mars's movements and aspects; Neptune is the ruler of Pisces, so Pisces people feel Neptune's movements and aspects more strongly than most)
As Monday is also the last day before the New Moon becomes exact, this is a great day to let go of what no longer serves us. As best as you can, avoid jumping the gun: Rather than launching into brand-new endeavors or connections, wait until a couple of days have passed after the New Moon.
Some of us might feel a little anxious or nervous today: As best as you can, get quiet and go within… Listen to the silence between the sounds… Find peace in the connection with your innermost and truest Self.
Tuesday at 4:43am EST, the Sun changes signs from practical, cautious, accomplishment-oriented Capricorn to freedom-loving, forward-thinking and objective Aquarius, where it will journey until Feb. 18th. For the next four weeks, we have advancement and progress in our hearts.
We want to get off the beaten path, leaving behind old and outdated ways of thinking and doing, throwing off personal and social conditioning – those restrictions, limitations and inhibitions that may once have felt safe, but now feel constraining.
Our idealism runs strong, but we can have some fixed ideas about how we want to accomplish these ideals – although we are open to new ideas in theory, in practice we may actually be quite stubborn.
Finally, we are also definitely more aware of the impact each individual has on the whole of society. All this is especially true if you are a Leo or Aquarius Sun-sign or Rising-sign. As an Aquarius, you will feel a good dose of confidence and playfulness in the next four weeks; as a Leo, you are more objective than usual…working towards a vision for the future might be just the thing for you to do.
Tuesday at 7:59am EST, the Moon moves into freedom-loving, forward-thinking Aquarius, where it will journey until Thursday morning. The energy of the Aquarian Moon relates to our instinct for improvement. Reactions are more intellectual than emotional; interactions more impersonal than personal. We are likely to have an increased fascination with the new and unusual.
Social gatherings, anything connected with group ideals and goals for the future, brainstorming, new ideas and methods, progress: all these are promoted during the time the Moon moves through Aquarius. Again: we have our eyes on the future -- or on outer space :-) Personal freedom becomes paramount.
Tuesday at 8:14am EST, the Moon aligns with the Sun in 0 degrees of Aquarius, This is the beginning of a new Moon cycle. With the New Moon in freedom-loving, forward-thinking Aquarius, we have our eye on the future. We are seeing a clear vision for our life and are ready to make huge improvements. We strive for equality, collaboration and progress. Where are you called to make a difference?
On Tuesday at 8:14am EST, the Moon will align with the Sun in 0 degrees of Aquarius; this is the beginning of a new Moon cycle. With the New Moon in freedom-loving, forward-thinking Aquarius, we have our eye on the future. We are seeing a clear vision for our life and are ready to make huge improvements. We strive for equality, collaboration and progress. Where are you called to make a difference?
Just like the last New Moon (4 weeks ago), this one is also in the very beginning of a sign (0 degrees). This heightens the Aquarian energy and asks of us that we open up to “The New" — especially in the area of life that corresponds to wherever the New Moon falls in our birth chart. The effect is also accentuated by Mercury and Venus connecting in Aquarius.
The Aquarian energy is connected to our inner visionary, humanitarian, and agent of change who’s all about creating a better future for all. Aquarius deals with the power of ideals, technology, and inventions. We are interested in the collective and are focused on changing group consciousness. What can the individual do for humanity? What about groups? How can group consciousness shift the course of humanity?
Each one of us has a special gift, a spark unique to us; when we access this inner genius and share it with the world, we are capable of quantum leaps of insight and remarkable collaborations with others. How does your inner genius communicate?
Uranus (the ruler of Aquarius) aligns with the South Node in Aries and makes a tight square to Pluto in Capricorn; this is asking us to redefine personal and collective freedom. We are invited to release old patterns, especially around gender, so we can each fulfill our unique role at this critical juncture on Earth. Our individual capacity to effect change is greater by far than we realize. Aim for wholeness: Your light will shine all the brighter when all of you is visible :-)
We are being invited to not only think outside the box, but to live there too — to make adjustments and find creative solutions as we go — flexibility is called for, as is allowing ourselves to break out of our “normal” routines. We are all agents of change (this is even truer for those of us with Uranus, Aquarius or 11th house planets strongly emphasized in our birth chart).
This New Moon also squares the degree that the Solar Eclipse occurred in, back on Oct. 23rd, 2014, so this is a turning point in our Soul’s Journey: We are invited to move to the next level. Flexibility and an open mind will support us with that movement. What important changes were happening for you three months ago? What are you ready to tackle now?
Mercury goes retrograde the day after the New Moon becomes exact. As best you can, take time for reflection, attune to insights from your higher Self. Ask yourself: Where do I need to re-align myself with my vision for the future? What needs to be repaired or released? What is holding me back from expressing and sharing my inner genius?
I found a wonderful quote about vision: “A vision is not just a picture of what could be, it is an appeal to our better selves, a call to become something more”. Sounds like this person might have Mercury in Aquarius :-) Feel free to watch my New Moon video -- will be posted by Sunday the latest ;-)
Do you have your Ascendant (or any personal planets) in one of the following placements: 0-2 degrees of Aquarius, Leo, Taurus,Scorpio, or 28/29 degrees of Capricorn, Cancer, Aries or Libra? If so, you may feel the effects of this New Moon more strongly.
The New Moon is also the best time to set some powerful intentions for this month's Moon cycle. This is best done soon after the New Moon becomes exact -- and definitely not during a Moon void of course phase. So this month, the best time to set intentions (most potent) would be any time between 8:15am EST Tuesday morning and 8:45pm EST Wednesday evening or 7:45am until 8:14am EST Thursday morning.
Wednesday: the Moon remains in freedom-loving, forward-thinking Aquarius all day (see Tuesday morning for details).
Wednesday at 10:54am EST, Mercury comes to a halt in 17 degrees of Aquarius (starting its 3-week retrograde phase), slowing things down tremendously today and tomorrow. Give yourself extra time to go to work this morning or to get things done. If you are traveling today, just simply go with the flow… you'll get there... eventually ;-) The same is true when it comes to all our technological devices…
This retrograde phase will last until Feb. 11th. People worry about Mercury retrogrades, but it’s important not to stop one's life during these times. As mentioned above, certain things may take longer -- but a retrograde gives us a chance to resolve things that have been keeping us from living our vision -- especially things that came up within the past three weeks. Take time to investigate your own thought processes: What feels progressive to you? What if you aligned yourself with that vision?
For the next three weeks, we get a chance to explore our inner genius -- to connect from within to what’s unique about us. It's also a chance to readdress group experiences, humanitarian causes or technology. This is an internal process -- a chance to honor and communicate our vision, working from the inside to the outside. If you knew you actually could make a difference, what difference would you make?
As always: with Mercury retrograde, always read the small print -- and re-read a contract before signing (if you have to sign something) -- or ask another person for a second opinion... Basically, during these periods, it's best to be aware of any details that we might have overlooked... and check in with our intuition... and stay open to the possibility of renegotiation or adjustments, down the line!
In general, Mercury Retrograde is a great time for reevaluating and reorganizing. This is especially true for our thought patterns and decisions (particularly those made in the 3 weeks prior to the start of the retrograde) -- but it's true of our lives in general: we can reach a clearer understanding as to what works, and what doesn’t, and what needs to change. Reconnecting with old friends, family members and clients is also favored at this time, especially if more than 3 people are involved…
Mercury also represents our day-to-day mind; this too is experienced more internally at this time. When it comes to communication, make sure that what you say, write and hear is the same as the intended meaning -- and use the spell-checker ;-)
Another thing to take into consideration: how does each Mercury retrograde phase affect your personal birth chart. Do you have any personal planets that Mercury will align with during its retrograde journey? The houses of your chart each represent different areas of your life -- which of the houses in your chart is affected by this retrograde?
As with any retrograde, some of us will be more affected than others, depending on how it interacts with our personal chart. That will be true if any of the following apply to you: Gemini or Virgo as your Sun- or Rising-Sign (Ascendant) -- or your Ascendant, Career Point (or any personal planets) in 0-18 degrees of Aquarius, Leo, Taurus or Scorpio.
Wednesday at 8:45pm EST, we enter an 11-hour Moon void of course (VoC), which ends at 7:48am EST (Thursday morning). Use this intuitive time to reconnect with like-minded people and share your vision with them. As always during VoC, take it easy -- go with the flow and avoid starting anything brand-new.
Thursday at 7:48am EST, the Moon moves into creative, sensitive Pisces, where it will journey until Saturday morning. The energy of the Pisces Moon bears on the need for connection to our higher selves. It can be a wistful, sensitive and compassionate time; we are especially imaginative, and our intuition reigns. Boundaries and walls come down; we feel energetically connected to everything around us.
As best as you can, therefore, be kind to yourself and others -- surround yourself with loving energy. It's a time best used for spiritual or creative endeavors and for dissolving our fears and doubts. Feelings tend to flow more freely; as best as you can, let them ;-)
Thursday around midday: We may need to adjust as we go. Check your energy levels; as best as you can, don’t rush things. Towards the evening, we feel creative, inspired -- and need to be engaged in selfless service.
Friday: the Moon remains in creative, sensitive Pisces all day (see Thursday morning for details).
Thursday night/Friday very early morning, an opportune Sun/Saturn aspect becomes exact at 12:23am EST. We started to feel this aspect from Wednesday on; it will be strong until Sunday. This aspect provides an opportunity to stick to a specific task and make progress.
We have common sense at our disposal; we are willing to look reality in the eye and take responsibility for our lives. It is also an opportunity to focus on being grounded, authentic and stable. Again, remember: opportunities are openings, they aren't necessarily handed to us -- we have to "take" them and make something of them.
Do you have your Ascendent, Career Point (or any personal planets) in 1-5 degrees of Aquarius, Sagittarius, Aries, or Libra? If so, you may be more aware of this opportunity. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Leo or Capricorn (the Sun rules Leo; Saturn rules Capricorn)
Friday at 6:13am EST, we enter a 26.5-hour Moon void of course (VoC), which ends at 8:31am EST (Saturday morning). Whether through dreams, or wakefully, use this as an opportunity to intuitively connect to your higher Self. If you’ve been obsessing over long-term plans, try cultivating a sense of faith and flow. As always during VoC, take it easy -- go with the flow and avoid starting anything brand-new. Routine tasks work very well during this time. If possible, plan your day ahead of time.
Saturday at 8:31am EST, the Moon moves into pioneering, fast-paced Aries, where it will journey until Monday late morning. The energy of the Aries Moon bears on starting something new. Our gut impulses are strong; we feel energetic, spontaneous, enthusiastic and brave -- and perhaps impatient and impulsive. Excess energy is best channeled into physical activity.
Did you set intentions on Tuesday or Wednesday (after the New Moon was exact)? If so, Saturday (and thereafter) would be a great time to start acting on them. If you wrote your intentions down, go back: Take another look at what came through intuitively. If you didn’t write anything down, get quiet for a moment and check in with yourself: What actions call out to be done?
Sunday: the Moon remains in pioneering, fast-paced Aries all day (see Saturday morning for more details). This might be a very busy day; early on, we have lots of energy and seek improvement, when it comes to our personal goals.
Later in the day, we may feel pulled into two different directions; this will require flexibility and adaptability. On the one hand, we want to create something unique -- something aligned with who we are now -- on the other, we feel obligated to serve our long-term commitments. We might even get hyper-focused on building something long-term. As best as you can though, stretch yourself: Make space for both. Talking about your process might help.
Later in the day, we feel optimistic, even deeply joyful. Allow yourself to see the bigger picture. With so much energy available to us, we may overextend ourselves… As best as you can, check in with your body, don’t burn the candle at both ends ;-)
Also on Sunday: Mercury ends its station and gets back to its normal pace through the sky -- but moving backward through the sky as seen from Earth (that’s what “retrograde” refers to). We have a chance to do some internal work on any thinking and/or communication issues that came up over the last week.
A head's up for next Monday: the Moon remains in pioneering, fast-paced Aries until 11:37am EST (see Saturday morning for more details). At 9:23am EST, we will enter a 2-hour Moon void of course (VoC), which ends at 11:37am EST. During this intuitive time, bring passion and charm to any connections with like-minded souls. As always during VoC, take it easy -- go with the flow and avoid starting anything brand-new. Routine tasks work very well during this time.
At 11:37am EST, the Moon will move into steady, peaceful Taurus, where it will be until Wednesday late afternoon. With the Moon in Taurus, we are motivated by the desire for serenity, security, peace and comfort. The Moon is at her most sensual and constant in Taurus.
Our basic impulse is to relax, resist change, get comfortable: life… slows… down. We may also be stubborn and materialistic under this influence. As best as you can, stop and smell the roses during this time -- enjoy life and its offerings ;-) This Moon placement also begins the build-up to the first Quarter Moon; this will be exact later in the evening…
At 11:48pm EST, the first Quarter Moon in Taurus will become exact (we started to feel this aspect from the moment the Moon entered Taurus earlier in the day). The Moon, in steady, peaceful, comfort-oriented Taurus, makes a challenging aspect to the Sun in freedom-loving, forward-thinking, rebellious Aquarius.
We feel compelled to take action. The New Moon took place last Tuesday (Jan. 20th); any projects or initiatives begun around then are probably off the ground by now -- and facing their first obstacles. This aspect provides a time to stretch, grow, and thereby create some forward momentum. We may feel anxious or unusually busy: As best as you can, go one breath at a time. Allow for changes, remain flexible, and find creative solutions in your day-to-day dealings with others.
Do you have your Ascendant, Career Point (or personal planets) in any of the following: 5-9 degrees of Taurus, Aquarius, Leo or Scorpio? If so, you will feel the effects of this first Quarter Moon more strongly than otherwise. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Leo or Cancer (the Sun rules Leo; the Moon rules Cancer).
Have a fantastic week!
