Last week was intense: I could definitely feel the Mars and Chiron station, on lots of levels (physical, emotional, spiritual)... So much to consider, heal and forgive. But of course, let's not forget the Venus/Pluto opposition we had last week: I am sure that had a lot to do with all that intensity as well. One thing I've learned in all my years of studying and talking about Astrology... it's never just one thing ;-) Life is complex, human beings are complex; so are our experiences and responses.
This week's headline items: the New Moon in Cancer becomes exact on Monday morning; the Chiron Station ends on Wednesday; we can start to take actions on our New Moon Intentions from Saturday morning on.
There will also be three Moon VoC phases this week: Tuesday very early morning (for 10 hours), Thursday morning (for 10.5 hours), and Saturday evening (for 5 hours).
Monday (July 4th): the Moon remains in protective, introverted Cancer all day. It will journey there until Tuesday early afternoon. With this Moon placement, we are more sensitive to what people say and therefore our feelings are more easily hurt -- so be kind to yourself and others.
Emotional safety is important to us as well; we like connecting to the familiar and we enjoy nurturing ourselves and others -- home and family call to us, for instance. Make sure though, that your glass is filled before letting others drink from it, otherwise you might start to feel drained and resentful.
Monday morning, at 7:01am EDT, the New Moon becomes exact in almost 13 degree of Cancer. This is the beginning of a new Moon cycle.
With the New Moon in protective, introverted Cancer, we look to surround ourselves with quality and safety. We can also expect to experience life in a deeper, more instinctual way.
The ancient "element" of water is as essential to our spiritual survival as actual water is to our physical bodies. To the ancients, “Water” corresponds to our feelings; just like its physical counterpart, when emotional “water” gets stagnant, it breeds dis-ease. When feelings are dammed up and don't flow, life continues at a very low vibrational setting.
Cancer is the first water sign of the zodiac, as such, it relates to the development of the “emotional body”. This New Moon readies us to deepen our understanding of our emotional nature and needs.
Our feeling nature has been denied and suppressed for millennia; we have begun to embrace it more fully -- feelings are an essential source of information. When we listen to them, we learn our true needs, what is healthy for us; when we don’t, we become dependent on others for validation and direction -- or get lost in addictions and distractions.
Mercury and Venus align with the New Moon in Cancer and Neptune in Pisces trines the New Moon. This underscores the message that we need to get more connected to our feelings, needs and sense of inner safety (i.e. to our foundations). We are invited to trust, and flow with energy currents, rather than struggle against them. We are invited to release past memories or conditioning that no longer serve us --
respectively keeping us in a lower vibrational place.
What have you learned about your relationship to the emotional body these past 2 - 4 years? Where could you go even deeper... be more present, listen more intently? What's your relationship to your feminine, receptive energies? Is there room for more integration? What baby steps could you take to make this happen?
Pluto opposes the New Moon, giving us the message to dig deeper into our feeling body and to allow "old" fears and suppressed feelings to come to the surface, so we can deal with them consciously and embrace them fully. This "content" might show up as we interact with others; as best as you can, see it as a gift to you -- a way of finally looking at something that you haven't dealt with for a long time (or ever).
What is draining your life-force because you are afraid to embrace it or face it? Or because you are defending against it?
True empowerment comes from being emotionally authentic and passionate about who we are and what we do. This can only be achieved when we are willing to feel our feelings and simultaneously keep our hearts wide open while we are feeling them -- in particular those feelings that we are uncomfortable with!
It can be so easy to project the root cause of our feelings onto others through blaming, accusing, etc... But this just hands our power over to others, and therefore does not work long-term; the same can be said of refusing to feel at all, or trying to intellectualize the feelings away (this is just a form of escaping our feelings). The messages we received at an early age can tell us a lot about how we deal with our feelings now.
How are you handling your feelings, needs and family relations? For the next two weeks, observe what feels empowering (uplifting) and disempowering (draining). Some more questions you can ask yourself: What does emotional maturity mean to me? How would I define it? How would I know when I have it?
We also have a Grand Trine happening in the water signs (Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces) for the next four weeks. This supports deeper emotional connections (both to ourselves, and to others); it also helps our personal and collective healing process, as we become more open to feeling our feelings and accepting them for what they are: messengers!
Feelings give us information about our level of connection to ourselves and others; they show us how aligned (or misaligned) we are with ourselves and our world. Feeling the feelings, honoring them and being with them in a gentle, nurturing way strengthens our relationship with ourselves and ultimately with the outside world.
How well do you care for your body, mind and Soul? What percentage of your day or week goes towards nurturing yourself? What might be possible if you spent 5% more time on self-care every day?
Finally, this New Moon that we must slow down and cultivate inner peace if we are to hear the quiet, subtle voice of intuition. That inner compass will never steer us wrong once we know how to read it.
What simple baby step could you take towards being a better reader of your inner compass?
As best as you can, nurture yourself every single day: Be the healthy parent to your inner baby (pre-verbal self). Be your own best friend, too -- that friend who stays true no matter what shows up. The world needs people that know how to nurture themselves, and who honor their feeling-body, people with a healthy center who know how to follow their inner compass! Also feel free to watch my New Moon video on the subject
Do you have your Ascendant (or any personal planets) in one of the following placements: 11-15 degrees of Cancer, Aries, Libra, or Capricorn? If so, you may feel the effects of this New Moon more strongly. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Leo or Cancer (the Sun rules Leo; the Moon rules Cancer).
The New Moon is also the best time to set some powerful intentions for this month's Moon cycle. Intentions are best done soon after the New Moon becomes exact -- and definitely not during a Moon void of course phase. So this month, the best time to set intentions would be any time between 7:01am on Monday morning until 2:29am EDT on Monday night/Tuesday very early morning; and then again from Tuesday (July 5th) at 12:28pm EDT until Wednesday (July 6th) at 7am EDT.
Monday late evening, a somewhat challenging Mercury/Saturn aspect becomes exact at 9:42pm EDT. We will started to feel this aspect from early morning on and it will be strong until Tuesday evening. This aspect operates internally: We feel uneasy about something, kind of awkward -- and we need to make a choice. This may sap our mental and physical energy, or lead us to reconsider some of our perspectives.
Ambitious goals often require more effort than we realized going in; this can impact our health if we don't pace ourselves. If we break projects down into small chunks -- actual action steps like "call the realtor" -- and tackle those simple achievable actions one at a time, we can move forward without overwhelm and with our health intact. One way to do this is to look at a project and ask "How?" a few times in a row, until you get to something you can actually do.
For example, let's say you want to go on vacation. If you ask "How?", you might answer "I'll fly to Paris". Ask "How?" again, and you get "I'll book a ticket". The next "How?" gets you to "I'll look at my favorite travel app on my phone". This is a simple, easily achieved action step - you're done. Breaking complex projects down like this reduces mental and physical stress.
In general: Use your time wisely and develop your inner "observer" so you can see what needs adjusting :-)
Do you have your Ascendant, Career Point (or personal planets) in 10-12 degrees of Cancer or Sagittarius? If so, you will be more affected by this aspect. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Gemini, Virgo or Capricorn (Mercury is the ruler of Gemini and Virgo; Saturn rules Capricorn)
Tuesday (July 5th) at 2:29am EDT we enter a 10-hour Moon void of course (VoC). that lasts until 12:28pm EDT. There may be a tension between our need to zoom ahead, versus our desire to nurture and be nurtured -- to feel safe in the world. Most everyone is wrestling with this, so we may feel impatient with each other, but this is also an intuitive time -- take advantage of that to make adjustments and find creative ways to manage these incompatible energies.
While it’s definitely best to avoid starting anything brand-new, this is actually an energizing time for existing projects. You may also want to plan the first half of Tuesday ahead of time -- and if all else fails, stick to routine things, or just go with the flow ;-)
Tuesday morning, a harmonious Mercury/Neptune aspect becomes exact at 8:19am EDT.We started feeling this aspect from last Sunday on; it will be strong until this Thursday.
This aspect supports our imagination and the connection of our day-to-day mind to our intuition.
We can sense the thoughts and feelings of others too, and therefore pay closer attention to how our words are landing, leading to a heightened adaptability and sensitivity in our communications with them. Our appreciation for photography, the arts, poetry, fiction and spirituality is sharpened; we are also more open to metaphysical or spiritual concepts.
Do you have any of your personal planets or Ascendent in 9-15 degrees of Cancer, Pisces or Scorpio? If so, you will be most blessed by this aspect. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Gemini, Virgo or Pisces (Mercury is the ruler of Gemini and Virgo; Neptune rules Pisces).
Tuesday early afternoon, at 12:28pm EDT,the Moon moves into playful, fun-loving Leo, where it will journey until Thursday evening. We may lack objectivity and struggle with backing down or compromising.
We all love to be admired and -- or at the very least acknowledged -- for our greatness... :-) So if you can, hand out some compliments, let people in your life know how proud you are of them, tell them how much you love them. Come from the heart with this and all other things: be honest, authentic.
Fun, games and romance are a big part of this energy as well. You might also enjoy spending time with little ones. If there are no "outer children" around, how about getting in touch with your "inner child" -- it's definitely easier for the next two days. What are you most grateful for today? What would be heaps and heaps of fun? What would be so much fun, you let out a tiny squeak, just thinking of it?
Wednesday (July 6th): the Moon remains in fun (and attention-loving) Leo all day (see Tuesday early afternoon for details).
Chiron ends its station today (Wednesday) and gets back to its normal pace through the sky -- but appears to be moving backward through the sky (as seen from Earth -- that’s what “retrograde” refers to). We have a chance to do some internal work on any emotional or spiritual wounding or insecurities that came up over the last couple of weeks.

On Wednesday afternoon, a harmonious Venus/Mars aspect becomes exact at 4:17pm EDT; we started to feel this aspect on Monday and it will be strong until Friday. We tend to feel passionate, super-creative, and just plain energized at this time -- we have tons of vitality and warmth.
This helps us bring people together for mutual pleasure and benefit; there is also a feeling of flow around creativity and athletic abilities... If you knew it would be easy, what would you pick to create?
Do you have your Ascendent, Career Point (or any personal planets) in 20-27 degrees of Cancer, Scorpio or Pisces? If so, you may feel more blessed by this aspect. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Taurus, Libra or Aries (Venus is the ruler of Taurus and Libra; Mars rules Aries)
Wednesday late evening, a Sun/Mercury alignment in 15 degrees of Cancer becomes exact at 11:24pm EDT. We will started to feel this aspect from Tuesday on and it will be strong until Friday morning. This aspect indicates a confident mind and an analytical approach to life. Intelligence and communication abilities are strong at this time; however, we may not listen as well as the other speaks -- we might be too busy thinking about what to say next.
As this alignment takes place in Cancer, we may be particularly sentimental, but it may not always serve us to refer back to the past -- especially the distant past.
We want an active role in communications -- it's very hard for us to passively listen and absorb information right now. What we say or write now has impact, so as best as you can, choose your words wisely. If people hung on your every word, what would you say then? What would you hold back from saying?
Our opinions are strong and our thinking independent -- and we're proud of both -- our egos may therefore get bruised if we don't feel "heard". As best as you can, express yourself fully, knowing that others may have different opinion and that's ok.
Do you have your Ascendant, Career Point (or personal planets) in 12-18 degrees of Cancer, Capricorn, Aries or Libra? If so, you will be more affected by this alignment. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Leo, Gemini or Virgo (the Sun rules Leo; Mercury is the ruler of Gemini and Virgo)
Thursday (July 7th): the Moon remains in fun and attention-loving Leo until 6:41pm EDT (see Tuesday early afternoon for details).
At at 7:55am EDT on Thursday morning, a Mercury/Pluto opposition becomes exact; we started feeling this aspect on Tuesday and it will remain strong until Friday night.
This opposition might bring up some very deep issues that need to be discussed. Obsessive thinking, attempts to persuade, insistence on knowing the "truth" or exposing lies... these are all possibilities now.
We are capable of very hard work and exertion. In particular, we tend to pursue ideas with intensity, making this an excellent time for any kind of research or in-depth study. We may not be able to put our inner thoughts and experiences into words -- and maybe that's as well, given the darkness and intensity of those thoughts.
We may develop a great love of debate, but we need to be careful not to overpower others with our strong opinions, in our efforts to "convert" them -- in other words, treating debates or exchanges of opinion as battlegrounds.
Intense conversations and connections feel more "real" than superficial ones. We want to dig out the truth about our feelings and the world we've built. As best as you can, try not to obsess about what someone said to you, or what you've heard: We may takes things personally, that were actually meant to empower us. Here's what it comes down to: Could you allow yourself to go deeper and tap into your inner power?
As best as you can, take it one moment at a time; as best you can, resolve issues through collaboration and cooperation and stay objective. When you notice that you are taking things personally and starting to get defensive, take a deep breath and ask yourself: Is this really about me? Or my past issues? Or their's? How can I ground myself in the here and now?
Do you have your Ascendant, Career Point (or personal planets) in 13-19 degrees of Cancer, Capricorn, Aries or Libra? If so, you will be more affected by this aspect. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Gemini, Virgo or Scorpio (Mercury is the ruler of Gemini and Virgo; Pluto rules Scorpio)
On Thursday at 8:07am EDT, we enter a 10.5-hour Moon void of course (VoC) (it lasts until 6:41pm EDT); use this intuitive time to socialize with friends or like-minded people and express your unique spark. As always with a Moon VoC, if you possibly can, don't start anything brand-new. Instead, stick to routine things, or simply go with the flow. You may also want to consider planning your day ahead of time ;-)
Thursday late morning: a challenging Venus/Uranus aspect becomes exact at 10:25am EDT. We started feeling this aspect from Tuesday on; it will be strong until Saturday. This "stretch aspect" asks us to grow beyond what we know and have experienced in the past in regards to our relationships, especially family relations.
Priorities may shift. We may experience clashes of taste or values with our loved ones; as you can imagine, we may feel some instability or restlessness in connection to others. We may also struggle with freedom versus material safety -- the latter manifesting as fears around financial goals.
As best as you can, take a deep breath and hold off on decision-making with regards to finances -- in particular, it is best to avoid impulse buys at this time.
In general, expect the unexpected: Things may take a different turn when it comes to the truly important. Keep your mind and heart open: if something demands elimination or change, it was waiting for that shift to happen anyway. As best as you can, find creative solutions and stay flexible and adaptable. This is not the best time to take things too personally (is there ever a good time for that? :-)
Do you have your Ascendent, Career Point (or any personal planets) in 21-27 degrees of Cancer, Aries, Capricorn or Libra? If so, you may be more affected by this aspect. The same is true for those with their Ascendant or Sun-sign in Taurus, Libra or Aquarius (Venus is the ruler of Taurus and Libra; Uranus rules Aquarius)
Thursday evening: a Sun/Pluto opposition becomes exact at 6:27pm EDT.We've been feeling this aspect from Tuesday on; it will be strong until Saturday. This opposition is all about "empowerment versus disempowerment". On an interpersonal level, we may try to gain more control over other people, and vice versa. A balance needs to be struck between family/home and work/career issues.
This transit will test our ambitions: How well have we planned? How hard have we worked? How efficient have we become? Our energy is high now, and it needs to be directed into constructive channels, rather than in reckless rebellion.
If you are in a position of authority, don't expect others to keep up with your fast pace: We may feel like driving ourselves past the breaking point, but employees or co-workers will likely rebel if we push them.
That said, we can use this time to gain control over our own actions; the challenge here is to understand why we do something in a particular way, rather than simply repressing traits we don't like. We are called to bring hidden facets of our character to the surface, so we can examine and understand them, then make appropriate changes.
If you find yourself wanting to be "aggressive", shoot for "assertive" instead; the first comes from fear, the second from love. And as always -- as best as you can -- choose love rather than fear, no matter the situation.
Do you have your Ascendent, Career Point (or any personal planets) in 13-19 degrees of Cancer, Capricorn, Aries or Libra? If so, you may be more affected by this opposition. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Leo or Scorpio (the Sun is the ruler of Leo; Pluto rules Scorpio)
Thursday at 6:41pm EDT, the Moon moves into detail-oriented, practical Virgo. It will journey there until Sunday early morning, turning our focus toward the practical and wholesome. We are generous with our time/services and we love to help others. We also have a fondness for science and anything that makes sense in our world -- things and knowledge we can apply and use.
Health might come also into focus at this time. We notice the parts that make up the whole; this is a great time to see if our daily routines (eating, work, self-care, etc.) align with our long-term goals.
Friday (July 8th): the Moon remains in detail-oriented, practical Virgo all day (see Thursday evening for details).
Friday very early morning, a harmonious Venus/Chiron aspect becomes exact at 3:48am EDT.We will started to feel this aspect from Wednesday on and it will be strong until Sunday morning. This heightens compassion and understanding and helps heal some wounds from the past.
We are more willing to be vulnerable, trusting that the other person has our best interest at heart; we also more easily see beauty in human weaknesses, rather than fault -- it's a strong time for seeing potential in one another.
Do you have your Ascendant, Career Point (or personal planets) in the following placements: 22-28 degrees of Cancer, Pisces or Scorpio? If so, you are more blessed by this aspect. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Taurus or Libra (Venus is the ruler of Taurus and Libra).
Friday morning, an opportune Mercury/Jupiter aspect becomes exact, at 5:05am EDT. We started to feel this aspect last Thursday; it will be strong until Saturday evening. This aspect is an opportunity for us to expand our thinking and express ourselves with confidence and optimism -- we share what's important to us from a place of open-mindedness and excitement.
This connection also creates a possibility of expansion via stepping into uncharted territory. Humor can be a great way to tap into this energetic combo.
This planetary connection also favors short trips, writing, teaching, studying, and making observations. We more readily exercise good judgment and are more "philosophical" and open to learning.
Again, as with any opportunity, we have to "take" it -- it requires we take action. What could you do that would instill confidence in your exploration of the mind? Is there a new mental process that is asking to be explored?
Do you have your Ascendant, Career Point (or personal planets) in 16-20 degrees of Cancer,Virgo, Scorpio or Taurus? If so, you will be more aware of this opportunity. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Gemini, Virgo or Sagittarius (Mercury rules Gemini and Virgo; Jupiter is the ruler of Sagittarius).
Saturday (July 9th): the Moon remains in detail-oriented, practical Virgo all day (see Thursday evening for details).
If you set intentions on Monday right after the New Moon became exact, or on Tuesday after the Moon VoC was over, Saturday is a great time to take relevant actions.
If you wrote your intentions down, go back and take another look at what came through intuitively; if you didn’t write anything down, get quiet for a moment and check in with yourself: What actions are calling to you?
Saturday at 11:28pm EDT, we enter a 5-hour Moon void of course (VoC) that lasts until 4:32am EDT (Sunday early morning). Use this intuitive time as an opportunity to communicate what’s of value to you -- and be of service to others.
Regular readers know the drill for Moon VoC: as best as you can, don't start anything brand-new, stick to routine things, or simply go with the flow. You may also want to plan your night and Sunday early morning ahead of time ;-)
Saturday night/Sunday very early morning: an opportune Sun/Jupiter aspect becomes exact at 1:41am EDT. We started to feel this aspect on Friday; its influence will remain strong until Monday evening of next week.
We might want to take advantage of the opportunities this aspect provides: it's an excellent time for making plans and writing lists, resolving conflicts with others (especially with family or co-workers), and boosting our self-confidence.
We may be feeling particularly vital and confident; this inner optimism can bring its rewards. Humor can be a big part of this aspect as well: We are able to see the irony in taking things personally and how scientific we can get about our daily routines. This is an opportunity to bring a healthy emotional attitude to our new perspectives about health, wellbeing and being of service to others.
If you had a special “wholeness” lens, what would your life look like, when you gazed through it?
Do you have your Ascendant, Career Point (or personal planets) in 16-21 degrees of Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio or Taurus? If so, you will be more aware of this opportunity. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Leo or Sagittarius (the Sun rules Leo; Jupiter is the ruler of Sagittarius).
Sunday (July 10th): the Moon remains in detail-oriented, practical Virgo and VoC until 4:32am EDT (see Thursday evening for details).
Sunday at 4:32am EDT, the Moon moves into harmony-loving, balance-seeking Libra, where it will journey until Tuesday late afternoon. The energy of the Libra Moon helps us be naturally courteous and diplomatic; we are more polite at this time, as we seek the approval of others.
We very much want to maintain equal, fair relationships at this time, and are therefore open to making compromises and negotiating. These next two days are a great time for mediation -- but our need for peace and accompanying aversion to direct conflict could pull us to "yes" more easily than we might like. We may also be able see both sides of the equation so well that we can't make decisions. As best as you can, find an inner balance with this and communicate what needs to be said with grace and charm -- even if it's "No" ;-)
One last quick note: this is also a great time for anything to do with visual arts.
Sunday late evening, a harmonious Mercury/Mars aspect becomes exact at 10pm EDT; we began to feel this aspect on Saturday morning and it will stay strong until Tuesday of next week.
This aspect helps clarify our financial or intimate relationship goals. We act from instinct and the desire for deeper connections; we develop a deeper need for authenticity and want to protect others.
We fall in love with research. In general, we are more perceptive and seem to possess "X-ray vision"; interestingly, one of the things we easily perceive is the weaknesses of others. Our minds could obsess, so it’s important that we keep ourselves active and focused on what's love-based rather than fear-based.
We are also expressive, having lively conversations in which we speak our truth without compromise, yet without coming across as too blunt or offensive — on the other hand, our passion might mean we come across as a little intense.
We seem to “download” great insights (and make superb decisions) at the very last minute — and the good news is... we can easily turn those insights into workable projects.
Do you have your Ascendent, Career Point (or any personal planets) in 21-27 degrees of Cancer, Scorpio or Pisces? If so, you may feel more blessed by this aspect. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Gemini, Virgo or Aries (Mercury is the ruler of Gemini and Virgo; Mars rules Aries)
A heads-up for next Monday (July 11th): the Moon will stay in harmony-loving, balance-seeking Libra all day (see Sunday early morning for details). In the early morning, a challenging Mercury/Uranus aspect becomes exact at 3:29am EDT. We started to feel this aspect on Saturday night; it will be strong until next Tuesday night. A harmonious Mercury/Chiron aspect becomes exact at 12:33pm EDT; we began to sense this aspect from Sunday morning on, its influence will be strong until next week Wednesday. At 8:52pm EDT,the first Quarter Moon in 20 degrees of Libra becomes exact... and last but not least, Mars ends its station on Monday. More details in next week’s forecast ;-)
