Slow Down and Catch Your Breath -- Astrology Forecast for Mon., Jan. 16th - Sun., Jan. 22nd, 2017

Please note that all times given below are Eastern Standard Time -- to change the listed times to your own timezone, I recommend clicking here for the time and date converter

Last week had lots of energy floating about... Being present in the here and now, taking it one moment at a time, doing my best to maintain a kind mind and an open heart -- this got me through it all without going into overwhelm and spinning out into space :-)

And... I finished my Planetary Overview for 2017! I did it! ;-) To get a peek at what's coming up this year, click here

This week's headline items: on Thursday afternoon, the Sun changes signs from Capricorn to Aquarius and the last Quarter Moon in Scorpio becomes exact. We also have two Mars aspects this week: a conjunct with Chiron in Pisces and a square with Saturn.

There will also be three Moon VoC phases this week: Monday night/Tuesday very early morning (for a little over 5 hours), Thursday very early morning (for a little over 13 hours), and Saturday evening (for almost 9.5 hours).

Monday (January 16th): the Moon remains in detail-oriented, practical Virgo all day. It will journey there until Tuesday morning; turning our focus toward the practical and wholesome. We are generous with our time/services and we love to help others. We also have a fondness for science and anything that makes sense in our world -- things and knowledge we can apply and use.

Health might come also into focus at this time. We notice the parts that make up the whole; this is a great time to see if our daily routines (eating, work, self-care, etc.) align with our long-term goals.

Monday evening, a Mars/Chiron alignment in 24.5 degrees of Pisces becomes exact at 9:14pm EST. We started to feel this aspect from last Thursday on; it will be strong until this Friday. This connection brings emotional healing to our bodies.

Seeking out energy healing or any other alternative forms of healing is going to be very beneficial, both to our emotional "bodies" and physical bodies. We may also find that music aids in our healing process, whether on a physical or emotional level.

This is also a great time to accept the validity of our own desires and feelings of anger; that way, when we do express them, we express them naturally and with confidence. Something may come along, related to a childhood wound, that we take personally; we may get triggered by this. Rather than suppressing your anger, as best as you can, allow yourself to feel it consciously; bring love and understanding to its origin.

Do you have your Ascendant, Career Point (or personal planets) in 18-25 degrees of Pisces, Virgo, Gemini or Sagittarius? If so, you will be more affected by this alignment. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Aries (Mars is the ruler of Aries, so those of us with these placements will always be affected more strongly by Mars's movements and aspects than others).

Tuesday (Jan. 17h): the Moon remains in detail-oriented, practical Virgo until 6:16am EST (see Monday for details).

Monday night/Tuesday very early morning at 1:09am EST, we enter a Moon void of course (VoC). that lasts for for a little over 5 hours, until 6:16am EST. If you are awake during this intuitive time, use it to get organized, improve daily routines, and for becoming aware of how this all fits in with achieving your long-term goals.

As always with a Moon VoC, as best as you can, don't start anything brand-new, stick to routine things, or simply go with the flow. You may also want to plan Tuesday early morning ahead of time ;-)

Tuesday at 6:16am EST, the Moon moves into harmony-loving, balance-seeking Libra, where it will journey until Thursday afternoon. The energy of the Libra Moon helps us be naturally courteous and diplomatic; we are more polite at this time, as we seek the approval of others.

We very much want to maintain equal, fair relationships at this time, and are therefore open to making compromises and negotiating. These next two days are a great time for mediation -- but our need for peace and accompanying aversion to direct conflict could pull us to "yes" more easily than we might like.

We may also be able see both sides of the equation so well that we can't make decisions. As best as you can, find an inner balance with this and communicate what needs to be said with grace and charm -- even if it's "No" ;-) One last quick note: this is also a great time for anything to do with visual arts.

Wednesday (Jan. 18th): the Moon remains in harmony-loving, balance-seeking Libra all day (see Tuesday morning for details).

Wednesday very early morning, a somewhat challenging Mars/Jupiter aspect becomes exact at 2:51am EST. We started to feel this aspect from Monday evening on; it will be strong until Thursday morning. We feel uneasy about something, almost awkward -- and we need to make a choice. An inner awareness needs to be developed in order to see what needs adjusting.

Our enthusiasm for creating from the heart could lead us into frustration, leaving us feeling drained and unappreciated.

We need to recognize our own competitive instincts for what they are, rather than masking them in "service to others"; if we can evaluate our intentions toward others in a healthy way, we will see whether they truly support our journey towards the divine.

Do you have your Ascendant, Career Point (or personal planets) in 21-24 degrees of Pisces or Libra? If so, you will be more affected by this aspect. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Aries or Sagittarius (Mars is the ruler of Aries; Jupiter rules Sagittarius)

Astrologically speaking, Thursday (Jan. 19th) is a busy day:the Moon remains in harmony-loving, balance-seeking Libra until 5:09pm EST (see Tuesday morning for details).

Thursday at 3:55am EST, we enter a Moon void of course (VoC). that last for a little over 13 hours, until 5:09pm EST. Use this intuitive time to collaborate with others and bring a new level of focus and authenticity to your exploration of life. As always with a Moon VoC, as best as you can, don't start anything brand-new, stick to routine things, or simply go with the flow. You may also want to plan Thursday ahead of time ;-)

Thursday early morning, a challenging Mars/Saturn aspect becomes exact at 4:16am EST. We started to feel this aspect from last Saturday on; it will be strong until this coming Sunday. This is a "stretch" aspect -- it's characterized by inner conflict -- as well as a maturity process that requires adjustments and flexibility on our part.

On the one hand, we want to start spiritual/creative projects and go with the flow, feeling our way through life. On the other, we have a strong focus on exploring “the truth” about life -- on reaching an understanding of what beliefs are truthful and align with our own experiences. As best as you can, make space for both of these.

We also tend to be more cautious now. We may experience a temporary loss of enthusiasm -- or setbacks that make us doubt our ability to win in life. We are learning to live life in moderation; this might be frustrating at first.

Pushing too hard (or too fast) doesn't always get us the results we want: It might be time to slow down a little and catch our breath. That way, we can come back later, with a stronger, more mature set of expectations and approaches.

Do you have your Ascendent, Career Point (or any personal planets) in 20-26 degrees of Pisces, Sagittarius, Gemini, Virgo? If so, you may be more affected by this aspect. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Aries or Capricorn (Mars rules Aries; Saturn is the ruler of Capricorn).

Thursday at 4:24pm EST, the Sun changes signs from practical, cautious, accomplishment-oriented Capricorn to freedom-loving, forward-thinking and objective Aquarius, where it will journey until Feb. 18th. For the next four weeks, we have advancement and progress in our hearts.

We want to get off the beaten path, leaving behind old and outdated ways of thinking and doing, throwing off personal and social conditioning – those restrictions, limitations and inhibitions that may once have felt safe, but now feel constraining.

Our idealism runs strong, but we can have some fixed ideas about how we want to accomplish these ideals – although we are open to new ideas in theory, in practice we may actually be quite stubborn.

Finally, we are also definitely more aware of the impact each individual has on the whole of society. All this is especially true if you are a Leo or Aquarius Sun-sign or Rising-sign. As an Aquarius, you will feel a good dose of confidence and playfulness in the next four weeks; as a Leo, you are more objective than usual…working towards a vision for the future might be just the thing for you to do.

Thursday at 5:09pm EST, the Moon moves into passionate, all-or-nothing Scorpio, where it will journey until Sunday early morning. We feel things deeply and have "X-Ray Vision" and "Bullshit-Smelling Abilities" ;-)

Emotional authenticity is extremely important to us at this time; anything less than 100% emotional honesty could be perceived as flat-out dishonest. Once we feel safe trusting someone, we want to merge with them, preferably forever... as long as our trust is never betrayed.

The Moon in Scorpio urges us to uncover our own power. This occurs by a process of subtraction -- it urges us to let go of whatever disempowers us. It's therefore an excellent time to look at "old" fears, limiting habits or emotional attachments, especially those stemming from past traumas.

Moon in Scorpio tends to run right over ambiguity -- it's "in or out", "with us or against us", "love me or leave me". It can therefore be stormy -- a cold winter storm, or a torrid tropical storm of passion, depending on how we "work" the energies :-)

Manipulation and paranoia are the lower vibrations of this aspect, so as best you can, be straightforward -- act in good faith and assume it in others. Best of all, be truly present to the fluctuations of your feelings -- no matter if they're "polite" or "timely". Feelings aren't facts, but they are information -- and heeding them will help you embrace all of who you are.

Know thyself -- and love thyself -- you shall be set free. Remember: Love connects us to the Power within; Fear causes "Force" to show up -- and that's ultimately what disempowers us and others.

Thursday at 5:13pm EST, the last Quarter Moon in 0 degrees of Scorpio will be exact. The Moon in deep-feeling Scorpio is making a challenging aspect to the Sun in emotionally detached Aquarius. This may bring up some challenges. However, it also energizes us to look at what needs to be completed -- and what needs to be changed.

This Moon phase brings us closer to Jan. 27th, which will bring the New Moon in Aquarius. During the last Quarter Moon, we are better served by reviewing those projects we began around the last New Moon -- in this case, that would be Dec. 29th -- as opposed to launching new ones. Out of those projects, what needs last-minute adjustments? What did you discover since then? What did it mean for you?

As best as you can, find creative solutions for anything that comes up (whether internally, or with others).

Do you have your Ascendant, Career Point (or personal planets) in the following: 0-2 degrees of Scorpio, Aquarius, Leo, Taurus or 28-29 degrees of Libra, Capricorn, Aries or Cancer? If so, you are more affected by this month's last Quarter Moon. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Leo or Cancer, since the Sun rules Leo and the Moon rules Cancer.

Friday (Jan. 20th): the Moon remains in passionate, all-or-nothing Scorpio all day (see Thursday afternoon for details).

Friday morning, an opportune Venus/Pluto aspect becomes exact at 8:57am EST.We started to feel this aspect from Wednesday on; it will be strong until Sunday. We have an opportunity here, to bring all of our passion to what we value most -- to build something with spiritual or creative value.

This could be a powerful and passionate time in our romantic relationships. We have the opportunity to build something long-term and bring a good dose of faith to that process. Remember: this is an "opportunity" -- opportunities aren't necessarily handed to us, we have to make them happen.

Do you have your Ascendant, Career Point (or personal planets) in 15-20 degrees of Pisces, Capricorn, Scorpio or Taurus? If so, you will be more aware of this opportunity. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Taurus, Libra or Scorpio (Venus is the ruler of Taurus and Libra; Pluto is the ruler of Scorpio)

Saturday (Jan. 21st): the Moon remains in passionate, all-or-nothing Scorpio all day (see Thursday afternoon for details).

Saturday at 8:24pm EST, we enter a Moon void of course (VoC). that last for almost 9.5 hours, until 5:45am EST (Sunday early morning). Use this intuitive time to slow down and focus on your inner processes. As always with a Moon VoC, as best as you can, don't start anything brand-new, stick to routine things, or simply go with the flow. You may also want to plan Saturday evening and Sunday early morning ahead of time ;-)

Sunday (Jan. 22nd) at 5:45am EST, the Moon moves into optimistic, adventurous, truth-seeking Sagittarius, where it will journey until Tuesday late afternoon. We're strongly motivated to explore and learn. We're not likely to be big fans of routine -- diversity and new adventures work best at this time -- we're also physically restless and need to burn that off with activity and physical exercise.

We tend to feel more open, optimistic and inspired -- but we also have a high degree of independence, which means we'd rather inspire others to do things our way, than take orders. Inspiring others could come easier than normal, as we can see the bigger picture, leaving us confident that others will agree with us, once they see what we see.

As best as you can, speak your truth without assuming that everyone is on the same page as you. Improvisation works well for us at this time, as we are spontaneous and love living on the edge -- just watch out you aren't overdoing or overstating things.

Sunday also presents an opportunity to take actions that serve our visions and dreams. If at all possible, connect with like-minded people that share your philosophies -- and brainstorm with them...

A head's up for next Monday (Jan.23rd): the Moon remains in optimistic, adventurous, truth-seeking Sagittarius all day (see Sunday early morning for details). An opportune Mercury/Neptune aspect becomes exact at 4:29am EST.We started to feel this aspect from Saturday on; it will be strong until next week Wednesday. Also on Monday, the Balsamic Moon phase begins. This lasts until Thursday night/Friday very early morning of next week, when the New Moon in Aquarius becomes exact (Jan.27th). More about all the details in next week’s forecast ;-)
