It's been quite a week: I am currently packing up my house, since we are moving; I also left for a family visit to Europe last week for my grandma's 95th Birthday. So... lots going on, lots to think about... :-)
I felt a real shift in my perspective, after watching the 1993 movie "Alive": I realized that no matter how much my mind tries to convince me how "bad" (or at least "stressful") things currently are, in the grander scheme of things, my current life situation is a piece of cake, compared to what other human beings have endured -- indeed, what people continue to endure in many places.
I am grateful for all that I am, all the support I have in my life, all the "gifts" that I am receiving on a daily basis -- simple things I often take for granted (smiles, food, shelter, love... etc). So, I decided to take the pressure off and simply do the best I can, without thinking about it too much. That simple shift in perspective gave me so much peace -- and guess what: I was able to get everything done before leaving on my trip.
This week's headline items: the first Quarter Moon in Leo becomes exact on Tuesday late evening; Mercury comes to a halt on Wednesday early afternoon (before slowly moving direct again) and moves with a slower pace -- it ends its station and resumes its regular pace on Sunday.
There will also be three Moon VoC phases this week: Monday afternoon (for almost 8 hours), Wednesday night/Thursday very early morning (for a little over 5 hours), and Saturday morning (for a little over 5.5 hours).
Monday (May 1st): the Moon remains in protective, nurturing Cancer all day. It will journey there until Monday night/Tuesday very early morning. With this Moon placement, we are more sensitive to what people say and therefore our feelings are more easily hurt -- so be kind to yourself and others. Self-Care is key for the next two and half days ;-)
Emotional safety is important to us as well; we like connecting to the familiar and we enjoy nurturing ourselves and others -- home and family call to us, for instance. Make sure though, that your glass is filled before letting others drink from it, otherwise you might start to feel drained and resentful.
Monday at 4:23pm EDT, we enter a Moon void of course (VoC). that lasts for almost 8 hours, until 12:12am EDT (Monday night/Tuesday every early morning). Use this intuitive time to make adjustments and (as best as you can) find creative solutions to seemingly insoluble situations. Make space both for going after personal projects that you feel passionate about and for taking care of emotional or family issues.
As always with a Moon VoC, as best as you can, don't start anything brand-new, stick to routine things, or simply go with the flow. You may also want to plan Monday evening ahead of time ;-)
Monday night/Tuesday every early morning at 12:12am EDT, the Moon moves into fun and attention-loving Leo, where it will journey until Thursday morning. We may lack objectivity and struggle with backing down or compromising. We all love to be admired -- or at the very least acknowledged -- for our greatness :-)
So hand out some compliments -- let people know how proud you are of them, tell them how much you love them. Come from the heart in this and all other things... be honest and authentic, as best you can. Fun, games and romance are a big part of this energy as well. You might also enjoy spending time with little ones.
If there are no "outer children" around, how about getting in touch with your "inner child" -- it's definitely easier for the next two days. What are you most grateful for today? What would be heaps and heaps of fun? What would be so much fun, you let out a tiny squeak, just thinking of it? This Moon placement also starts the build-up towards the first Quarter Moon (exact on Tuesday late evening).
Tuesday (May 2nd): the Moon remains in fun and attention-loving Leo all day (see Monday night for details).
Tuesday at 10:47pm EDT, the first Quarter Moon in almost 13 degrees of Leo becomes exact. We started to feel this aspect from the moment the Moon entered Leo Monday night. The Moon in fun and attention-loving Leo makes a challenging aspect to the Sun in steady, peaceful Taurus.
We feel compelled to take action. The New Moon took place a week ago (April 26th); "seeds" planted then are probably "sprouting" by now -- and making their first real contact with the outside world. This is therefore a time to stretch and grow -- and create some forward momentum. We may feel anxious or unusually busy.
As best as you can, go one breath at a time. Allow for changes, remain flexible (as much as possible), and find creative solutions for your day-to-day interactions with others.
Do you have your Ascendant, Career Point (or personal planets) in any of the following: 11-15 degrees of Leo, Taurus, Aquarius or Scorpio? If so, you will feel the effects of this first Quarter Moon more strongly than otherwise. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Leo or Cancer (the Sun rules Leo; the Moon rules Cancer).
Wednesday (May 3rd): the Moon remains in fun and attention-loving Leo all day (see Monday night for details).
Wednesday at 12:33pm EDT, Mercury comes to a halt in 24 degrees of Aries and slowly starts its direct motion, after its 3-week retrograde phase. As best as you can, go with the flow, keep an open mind and pay attention to anything that is in your face right now -- you may need to address those issues again, when Mercury moves through its shadow phase…more on that later.
We are slowly ready to shift our focus back towards the outer world again, taking in new information and sharing from a new perspective. What did you learn about your personal preferences over the past 3 weeks? How might you share your findings in a healthy way with others? What needs to be addressed with regards to your values or what you feel passionate about?
When Mercury gets back to its regular speed (by May 7th), communication and transportation will get back to normal; the same is true of any associated gadgets, vehicles, etc.
Some of us will feel the effects of this station more than others: those of us with Gemini or Virgo as our Sun- or Rising-Sign (Ascendant) -- and those of us with personal planets (or angles) in 22-26 degrees of Aries, Libra, Capricorn, or Cancer.
As you may recall, I mentioned Mercury shadow phases in this update a few weeks back: If you want to buy, sell or ship big-ticket items, it's best to avoid the periods shortly before and after Mercury goes retrograde. This is especially true if the items are connected to transportation (cars, plane tickets, etc.) or communication (phone, computer, iPad, etc.) This particular shadow phase ends on May 20th. Click here to read my blog on the subject.
Wednesday evening, an opportune Sun/Neptune aspect becomes exact at 8:51pm EDT. We started to feel this aspect from Monday on; it will be strong until Saturday. This aspect is an opportunity both to dissolve what no longer serves us, and to connect to our intuition. We definitely feel inspired. It’s also a great time to allow a sense of flow and faith in our financial standings.
Our capacity for compassion (both toward ourselves and others) is quite strong, especially if we are able to acknowledge it. Dreams and reality find a way to work together now -- any spiritual or creative endeavors that are started during this time will most likely do very well -- and it feels great to donate time or money to favored causes.
Remember that this is an "opportunity" -- it isn't just handed to us, we have to make it happen.
Do you have your Ascendant, Career Point (or personal planets) in 12-16 degrees of Taurus, Pisces, Capricorn or Cancer? If so, you will be more aware of this opportunity. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Leo or Pisces (the Sun rules Leo; Neptune is the ruler of Pisces).
Thursday (May 4th): the Moon remains in fun and attention-loving Leo until 5:47am EDT (see Monday night for details).
Wednesday night/Thursday very early morning at 12:35am EDT, we enter a Moon void of course (VoC). that last for a little over 5 hours, until 5:47am EDT. During this intuitive time, have fun connecting with others, and exploring new avenues.
As always with a Moon VoC, as best as you can, don't start anything brand-new, stick to routine things, or simply go with the flow. If you are awake during this time, you may also want to plan Thursday early morning ahead of time ;-)
Thursday at5:47am EDT, the Moon moves into detail-oriented, practical Virgo, where it will journey until Saturday mid afternoon; turning our focus toward the practical and wholesome. We are generous with our time/services and we love to help others. We also have a fondness for science and anything that makes sense in our world -- things and knowledge we can apply and use.
Health might come also into focus at this time. We notice the parts that make up the whole; this is a great time to see if our daily routines (eating, work, self-care, etc.) align with our long-term goals.
Friday (May 5th): the Moon remains in detail-oriented, practical Virgo all day (see Thursday morning for details).
Friday early morning, a somewhat challenging Sun/Jupiter aspect becomes exact at 3:59am EDT. We started to feel this aspect from Wednesday night on, it will be strong until Saturday night. This aspect operates more on an internal level. We feel uneasy about something, sort of awkward -- and we need to make a choice. An inner awareness needs to be developed if we’re to see what needs adjusting.
More profoundly though, we may feel challenged, as we realize that we are being overly enthusiastic with others. That high optimism may also drive us to take on more than we can physically handle. If we do start to feel drained or frustrated, it might be helpful to look at how we use our energy: Are we in tune with our physical body?
It’s also worthwhile to examine how our personal beliefs about relationships are being received by others... Can we involve them in our desire for more balance and harmony? And even perhaps our desire for more justice in the world?
Neither avoiding conflict, nor digging in our heels will serve us now; as best as you can, slow down and stay tuned in to your physical body -- ground yourself like a tree rooting deep into the earth, with branches that bend with the wind ;-)
Do you have your Ascendant, Career Point (or personal planets) in 14-16 degrees of Taurus or Libra? If so, you will be more affected by this aspect. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Leo or Sagittarius (the Sun rules of Leo; Jupiter rules Sagittarius)
Saturday (May 6th): the Moon remains in detail-oriented, practical Virgo until 2:20pm EDT (see Thursday morning for details).
Saturday at 8:42am EDT, we enter a Moon void of course (VoC). that lasts a little over 5.5 hours, until 2:20pm EDT. Do your best to use this intuitive time to make some adjustments in your life and find creative solutions to seemingly unsolvable situations.
Make space both for looking at your beliefs, to see which ones are sound, and for organizing your daily routines. As always with a Moon VoC, as best as you can, don't start anything brand-new, stick to routine things, or simply go with the flow. You may also want to plan Saturday morning/early afternoon ahead of time ;-)
Saturday at 2:20pm EDT, the Moon moves into harmony-loving, balance-seeking Libra, where it will journey until Monday night/Tuesday very early morning. The energy of the Libra Moon helps us be naturally courteous and diplomatic; we are more polite at this time, as we seek the approval of others.
We very much want to maintain equal, fair relationships at this time, and are therefore open to making compromises and negotiating. These next two days are a great time for mediation -- but our need for peace and accompanying aversion to direct conflict could pull us to "yes" more easily than we might like.
We may also be able see both sides of the equation so well that we can't make decisions. As best as you can, find an inner balance with this and communicate what needs to be said with grace and charm -- even if it's "No" ;-) One last quick note: this is also a great time for anything to do with visual arts.
Sunday (May 7th): the Moon remains in harmony-loving, balance-seeking Libra all day (see Saturday afternoon for details).
Sunday: Mercury resumes its normal pace through the sky, ending its station. Communication and transportation is now back to “normal”, as are any associated gadgets, vehicles, etc. New ideas and information received during the Mercury retrograde phase (April 9th -- May 3rd) can now be reviewed. What did you discover about your inner dialogue -- especially when it comes to your personal values and desires — during that time?
A head's up for next Monday (May 8th): the Moon remains in harmony-loving, balance-seeking Libra all day (see Saturday afternoon for details). At 6:59pm EDT, we enter a 6-hour Moon void of course (VoC). that lasts until 12:12am EDT (Monday night/Tuesday very early morning). More about all the details in next week’s forecast ;-)
