Tremendous Mental Focus -- Astrology Forecast for Mon., Jan. 25th - Sun., Jan. 31st, 2016

Please note that all times given below are Eastern Standard Time -- to change the listed times to your own timezone, I recommend clicking here for the time and date converter

Last week was an interesting mix; something that came up quite a bit was this apparently intrinsic desire to ask "Why?" a lot. As a child I was very big on asking my parents "why" - questions, usually with no success. A teacher of mine once said: "Whys aren't wise" and I took offense to that, since I have a very curious nature and my history of frustrating, sometimes even painful interactions/ conversations with my parents seemed to be justified.

I wrote it off as: "we have to agree to disagree"... Until, I spoke to my dear friend Kathy, who said something very powerful to me: "Whys in connection with human behavior (including our own) are connected to wanting to blame. They disempower us, because when we are looking to blame someone/something, we are giving our power away." Now THAT made sense to me :-)

This week's headline items: Mercury comes to a halt on Monday afternoon; the Mercury station ends on Friday; on Saturday, Chiron moves over the degree of the upcoming Solar Eclipse (the Eclipse will be in March). Finally, the last Quarter Moon in Scorpio becomes exact on Sunday late evening.

There will also be three Moon VoC phases this week: Monday all day (until 10:46pm EST), Wednesday evening (for almost 15 hours), and Friday evening (for almost 26.5 hours -- until Saturday late evening).

Monday: the Moon remains in fun and attention-loving Leo and VoC until 10:46pm EST.Take it easy in the morning and go with the flow today as much as possible.

Monday at 4:50pm EST, Mercury comes to a halt in almost 15 degrees of Capricorn and slowly starts its direct motionafter its 3-week retrograde phase. As best as you can, go with the flow, keep an open mind and pay attention to anything that is in your face right now -- you may need to address those issues again, when Mercury moves through its shadow phase…more on that later.

We are slowly ready to shift our focus back towards the outer world again, taking in new information and sharing from a new perspective. What did you learn about your inner dialog over the past 3 weeks? How can you share your newly found inner understanding in a healthy way with the world? What needs to be addressed regarding long-term goals, realistic/authentic ways of approaching communications, and any new-found understanding of our own thinking structures?

When Mercury gets back to its regular speed (by Jan.29th), communication and transportation will get back to normal; the same is true of any associated gadgets, vehicles, etc.

Some of us will feel the effects of this station more than others: those of us with Gemini or Virgo as our Sun- or Rising-Sign (Ascendant) -- and those of us with personal planets (or angles) in 13-17 degrees of Capricorn, Cancer, Aries or Libra.

As you may recall, I mentioned Mercury shadow phases in this update a few weeks back: If you want to buy, sell or ship big-ticket items, it's best to avoid the periods shortly before and after Mercury goes retrograde. This is especially true if the items are connected to transportation (cars, plane tickets, etc.) or communication (phone, computer, iPad, etc.) This particular shadow phase ends on Feb.15thClick here to read my blog on the subject.

Monday at 10:46pm EST, the Moon moves into detail-oriented, practical Virgo, where it will journey until Thursday morning. This turns our focus toward practical activities -- reorganizing and rethinking our plans, perhaps. Solving problems, making order out of confusion, helping others: all of these bring emotional satisfaction.

Health matters might come into focus. We notice the parts that make up the whole; this is a great time to look at our daily routines (eating, work, self-care, etc.), to see if they are in alignment with our long-term goals.

Tuesday: the Moon remains in detail-oriented, practical Virgo all day (see Monday morning for details).

Tuesday morning (around 5am EST): we can tackle anything that requires attention to detail -- and perhaps implement health routines that support our long-term goals. Business connections and practical collaborations flow easily.

In the late morning (around 10:30am EST),we may need to make some adjustments, and think outside the box. Flexibility and adaptability are key today, given that we may experience an inner discomfort between two seemingly irreconcilable forces: Our vision of a better future, versus our need to stay connected to the practical and wholesome.

Tuesday afternoon (around 3pm EST): We are asked to pursue a balance between rationality and intuition. As best as you can, allow your rational mind to be of service to your heart, to what feels "right". There is also value now in bringing compassion and openness to our need for perfection and practical improvements.

Tuesday late evening (around 11pm EST): We get an opportunity to take focused actions rooted in reality and clarity. Performing research is a great match for this energy ;-)

Wednesday: the Moon remains in detail-oriented, practical Virgo all day (see Monday morning for details).

Wednesday morning (around 5am EST): We start the day off with lots of productive energy, have our feet on the ground, and are "going for it". In the late morning (around 11am EST), we are being asked to seek a balance between the mind -- the need to understand rationally -- and our healing process (which we need to understand intuitively and emotionally -- and that needs our compassion, acceptance and forgiveness).

Wednesday at 7:11pm EST we enter a Moon void of course (VoC) that lasts almost 15-hours, until 9:59am EST (Thursday mid morning). Use this intuitive time to take the bigger view on your health routines (and daily routines in general). Enjoy looking at the systems that you have in place to make routines more efficient, both at home and at work.

As always with a Moon VoC, as best as you can, don't start anything brand-new, stick to routine things, or simply go with the flow. You may also want to plan your evening and Thursday morning ahead of time ;-)

Thursday: the Moon remains in detail-oriented, practical Virgo and VoC until 9:59am EST (see Monday morning and Wednesday evening for details).

Thursday at 9:59am EST, the Moon moves into harmony-loving, balance-seeking Libra, where it will journey until Saturday late evening. The energy of the Libra Moon wants to maintain equal relationships: we thus tend to spend more time on diplomacy -- making compromises, negotiating, practicing graciousness, balancing, etc.

We can better set aside our emotions, to achieve the peace we desire; the shadow side of this is a tendency to avoid direct confrontations. We see both sides -- and may also fear loss of approval -- so we can't decide. As best as you can, find your inner balance with this... and communicate what needs to be said with grace and charm.

Friday: the Moon remains in harmony-loving, balance-seeking Libra all day (see Thursday morning for details).

Mercury resumes its normal pace through the sky today (Friday), ending its station: Communication and transportation is now back to “normal”, as are any associated gadgets, vehicles, etc. New ideas and information received during the Mercury retrograde phase (Jan. 5th -- 25th) can now be reviewed -- What could you do with that now?

Friday at 8:34pm we enter a Moon void of course (VoC). that lasts for almost 26.5-hours until 10:50pm EST (Saturday late evening). Use this intuitive time to find a balance between your unique vision for life and your need for approval and collaboration. As always with a Moon VoC, as best as you can, don't start anything brand-new, stick to routine things, or simply go with the flow. You may also want to plan your evening and Saturday Day ahead of time ;-)

Saturday: the Moon remains in harmony-loving, balance-seeking Libra and VoC until 10:50pm EST (see Thursday morning and Friday evening for details). As always with a Moon VoC, as best as you can, don't start anything brand-new, stick to routine things, or simply go with the flow.

Friday night/Saturday very early morning, a Mercury/Pluto alignment in 16 degrees of Capricorn becomes exact at 12:58am EST. We started feeling it build for an unusually long time, from Jan. 18th on -- and it will remain strong until Feb. 3rd, due to Mercury's retrograde/station. This aspect is now exact for the third time in the past 40 days. We are invited to look back to the week around Dec. 19th and to last week, to see what long-term plans we thought about at those times, that align with something we feel deeply passionate about.

With this alignment, an all-or-nothing attitude is very likely. We have tremendous mental focus — which could tip into obsession. Choose love over fear whenever possible. Connect to the things you feel passionate about -- and connect to others, empowering them with your passions. As best as you can, choose your words carefully -- if possible, speak from that deeply connected and empowered place.

Do you have your Ascendent, Career Point (or any personal planets) in 13-19 degrees of Capricorn, Aries, Libra or Cancer? If so, you may feel more connected to this alignment. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Gemini, Virgo or Scorpio (Mercury is the ruler of Gemini and Virgo; Pluto rules Scorpio)

Also on Saturday, for the first half of the day (until 3pm EST)Chiron moves over the degree of the upcoming Solar Eclipse (18 degrees 42' of Pisces).Any issues of insecurity or past wounding that come up now will need to be addressed in the 5.5 months following March 8th's Solar Eclipse.

The key here is to build awareness, to see what needs to be released/redefined, that is not longer in alignment with our Soul's Journey (our evolution). This helps us get more in touch with our limitations and humanity -- and bring love, kindness and compassion towards them.

What about your own humanity is asking for your love, forgiveness, understanding, acceptance? Think of one of your "limitations" or "flaws": What if it made you unique? What has it taught you?

Saturday late morning, an opportune Venus/Neptune aspect becomes exact at 11:44am EST. We started to feel this aspect from Thursday on; it will be strong until this Sunday. This is an opportunity for compassion and kindness in our social and work-related interactions. We are more attuned to the subtleties of human interaction, and are more inclined to naturally cooperate with others.

We tend to "feel" each other on an energetic level now, a sensitive approach is therefore recommended. This is also an opportunity for imaginative or romantic interactions. Remember: opportunities are openings; they aren't necessarily handed to us -- we have to "take" them and make something of them.

Do you have your Ascendent, Career Point (or any personal planets) in 6-10 degrees of Capricorn, Pisces, Scorpio or Taurus? If so, you may be more aware of this opportunity. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Taurus, Libra or Pisces (Venus is the ruler of Taurus and Libra; Neptune rules Pisces).

Saturday late evening at 10:50pm EST, the Moon moves into passionate, all-or-nothing Scorpio, where it will journey until Tuesday morning. We feel emotions on a deeply personal level. We are motivated by the desire to get to the bottom of things -- superficiality won't work for us now -- and we instinctively read between the lines.
The Moon in Scorpio urges us to uncover our own power; it's an excellent time to rid ourselves of old fears and limiting habits. This tends to be an emotionally colored, all-or-nothing, black or white experience -- it can therefore be an intimate, passionate time. As best as you can, avoid manipulation, brooding and suspicion; instead, open to the wealth of your innermost feelings -- decide to go deeper, allowing all feelings to surface, if they need to.
Embrace all of who you are. Know thyself, love thyself and you shall be set free. Remember: a deep love of all that we are will connect us to the Power within; Fear causes "Force" to show up -- and is ultimately what disempowers ourselves and others. This Moon placement starts the build up towards the last Quarter Moon, exact Sunday late evening…more on that tomorrow…

Sunday: The Moon remains in passionate, all-or-nothing Scorpio all day (see Saturday for details).

On Sunday at 10:28pm EST, the last Quarter Moon in 11 degrees of Scorpio becomes exact. We started to feel this aspect from the moment the Moon entered Scorpio on Saturday evening. The Moon in deep-feeling Scorpio is making a challenging aspect to the Sun in emotionally detached Aquarius. This may bring up some challenges. However, it also energizes us to look at what needs to be completed -- and what needs to be changed.

This Moon phase brings us closer to the next New Moon (Feb.8th). With the last Quarter Moon, rather than starting major new projects, it serves us take a look at what was started around the time of the last New Moon -- in this case, around Jan. 9th. We now have about a week to wrap those projects up. What -- if anything -- needs last-minute adjustments? What did you discover since Jan. 9th? What did it mean for you?

As best as you can, find creative solutions for anything that comes up, whether internally or with others.

Do you have your Ascendant, Career Point (or personal planets) in 9-14 degrees of Aquarius, Scorpio, Leo or Taurus? If so, you are more affected by this month's last Quarter Moon. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Leo or Cancer, since the Sun rules Leo and the Moon rules Cancer.

Sunday late eveninga challenging Mercury/Uranus aspect becomes exact at 10:41pm EST. We have been feeling this aspect build for an unusually long time, from Jan. 17th on; it will be strong until Feb. 4th, due to Mercury's retrograde/station. This aspect is now exact for the third time in the last 40 days; we are again invited to look back to the the weeks around Dec. 20th and last week, this time to see what thoughts and future insights came to us.

We'll want to think outside the box, to stretch our thinking. There might be a tendency to act suddenly, without thought or consideration. This aspect could also create some restlessness and unease.

We may feel mental tension, irritation or worry, stemming from a need to rebel or be controversial. Our ideas -- the way we think and communicate -- might feel different or unusual at this time; we may have an urge to break out of obsolete mental patterns.
We could also channel that nervous energy into constructive pursuits. Since we might want to challenge established thought (or play devil's advocate) it helps to get in touch with our inner truth. Take a deep breath every now and again and stay grounded in your body. Turn fear into excitement and drop into your heart… Give your mind the space to re-organize.

We can't expect much of anything during this transit… except the unexpected! Routines and plans will likely face disruption; this could stimulate new approaches. Revelations and breakthroughs are quite likely at this time -- the best mind for dealing with this transit is an open one: As best as you can, go with the flow. Stay open to the new and wonderfully unexpected.

Avoid making major decisions for the time being, especially if they are hasty ;-) You can think of this as "reorganizing" time for the mind, like moving your desk to a new location. Try not to resist the reorganization... Enjoy the ride.

Do you have your Ascendant, Career Point (or personal planets) in 14-20 degrees of Capricorn, Aries, Cancer or Libra? If so, you will be more affected by this aspect. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Gemini, Virgo or Aquarius (Mercury is the ruler of Gemini and Virgo; Uranus rules Aquarius)

A head's up for next Monday: the Moon remains in passionate, all-or-nothing Scorpio all day (see Saturday for details). At 7:35pm EST, we enter a Moon void of course (VoC). that lasts for almost 15.5-hour until 10:50am EST (Tuesday late morning). More about all the details in next week’s forecast ;-)

Hi Sonja~ I just had heard one of the latest chanelings where it was stated "Ask WHY. It was the one thing you did as a child. Do it now!" After reading your opening on this week's blog I thought "Well, here we go. Sonja is doing exactly thet......WHY?" I thought I would share that with you as it struck me. Here's hoping that you endured and thrived in the winter storm JONAS. We had 30 inches of snow in Baltimore. New York seemed to have many power outages. Hugs, Brian

HI Brian, So great to hear from you. Thanks for sharing with me about the channeling you heard about :-) Curiosity is a great gift, as long as we don't use the WHY-questions to disempower ourselves. I always say: Follow the energy! If it feels energizing to your system, keep going -- however, if it feels de-energizing to your system, take a pause and look to see what needs adjusting ;-) I moved to Chicago in 2014, so the East Coast storm did not affect me, but I saw some videos online and it looked really intense. I sent light and love to everyone affected by JONAS. Hope you are staying warm and dry ;-) Love and blessings, Sonja
