If I had to sum it all up into one word, last week was: magical. Yes, it was many other things, but since I am in India right now at an Astrology Workshop, I thought I would keep it short and to the point ;-)
This week's headline items: the Balsamic Moon phase begins, Mercury ends its shadow phase, the New Moon in Aquarius becomes exact, (and Eclipse season begins), Jupiter begins its pre-retrograde station, Mars changes signs from Pisces to Aries.
There will also be three Moon VoC phases this week: Tuesday early afternoon (for a little over 5 hours), Thursday night/Friday very early morning (for a little over 1 hour), and Saturday night/Sunday very early morning (for a little over 10 hours).
Monday (January 23rd): the Moon remains in optimistic, adventurous, truth-seeking Sagittarius all day. It will journey thereuntil Tuesday late afternoon. We're strongly motivated to explore and learn. We're not likely to be big fans of routine -- diversity and new adventures work best at this time -- we're also physically restless and need to burn that off with activity and physical exercise.
We tend to feel more open, optimistic and inspired -- but we also have a high degree of independence, which means we'd rather inspire others to do things our way, than take orders. Inspiring others could come easier than normal, as we can see the bigger picture, leaving us confident that others will agree with us, once they see what we see.
As best as you can, speak your truth without assuming that everyone is on the same page as you. Improvisation works well for us at this time, as we are spontaneous and love living on the edge -- just watch out you aren't overdoing or overstating things.
Monday early morning,an opportune Mercury/Neptune aspect becomes exact at 4:29am EST.We started to feel this aspect from last Saturday on; it will be strong until this Wednesday. Due to the last Mercury Retrograde phase, we have been experiencing this aspect several times already; this is the third pass within the last 6 weeks. This gives us a chance to address our approach toward any misunderstandings.
This aspect gives us the opportunity to bring compassion and an intuitive approach to our thinking process. Having faith and connecting to our Higher Selves will be of service to us at this time. Any artistic or spiritual endeavors are likely to do well at this time. Music might help us with our thinking process and ability to get things done.
Let yourself be inspired! A book, a song, a movie, someone else's words… allow the Universe to speak to you. Open your mind to a higher vibration -- and remember, opportunities are openings... they aren't necessarily handed to us... we have to "take" them and make something of them. Is there anything that came up around 16 days ago that needs to be readdressed? If so, this is your chance... ;-)
Do you have your Ascendent, Career Point (or any personal planets) in 8-12 degrees of Capricorn, Pisces, Scorpio or Taurus? If so, you may be more aware of this opportunity. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Gemini, Virgo or Pisces (Mercury is the ruler of Gemini and Virgo; Neptune rules Pisces).
Monday night/Tuesday very early morning, the Balsamic Moon phase begins. This lasts until Friday evening, when the New Moon in Aquarius becomes exact (more on that later...). We are being asked to slow down and get quiet, so we can listen to our intuition. For some of us, this might be a stretch.
As best as you can: stay grounded, take a deep breath and exhale any tensions. Rather than starting something brand-new, put all that energy into completing existing projects or processes. This is also a great time for letting go of whatever no longer serves us. What if you could hear the voice of your inner wisdom? What might it be saying?
Tuesday (Jan. 24th): the Moon remains in optimistic, adventurous, truth-seeking Sagittarius until 5:43pm EST (see Monday for details).
Tuesday at 12:33pm EST, we enter a Moon void of course (VoC). that lasts for a little over 5 hours, until 5:43pm EST. Use this intuitive time to make necessary adjustments. Honor your need for adventure and exploration of life -- and your desire for going with the flow. You may also feel a pull between your introverted and extroverted sides.
As always with a Moon VoC, as best as you can, don't start anything brand-new, stick to routine things, or simply go with the flow. You may also want to plan the second half of Tuesday ahead of time ;-)
Tuesday at 5:43pm EST, the Moon moves into practical, accomplishment-oriented Capricorn, where it will journey until Friday very early morning. We tend to be more realistic, serious, cautious; this can support practical endeavors and financial matters.
Our ambition surges and brings with it a need for structure and planning; when you add in the pragmatism this aspect supports, you can see how this could be a very productive time for business and long-term goals. Our reputation becomes very important to us.
As best as you can during this aspect, avoid "should-ing" on yourself. Take the pressure off, perhaps by saying "I am doing the best I can and that's all I can ever do" ;-)
Saturn is the ruler of Capricorn; it's transiting through Sagittarius right now, making this a great time to explore limiting beliefs and bust through conditioned thought structures. It's also a great time to take a more serious look at the "meaning of life".
As best as you can, be authentic about your beliefs: Do they actually match your direct experience of life -- as it is for you now, rather than 5 or 10 years ago? What is true as of now? What is not?
Wednesday (Jan. 25th): the Moon remains in practical, accomplishment-oriented Capricorn all day (see Tuesday late afternoon for details).
Tuesday night/Wednesday very early morning, a Venus/Chiron alignment in 22 degrees of Pisces becomes exact at 1:49am EST. We started to feel this connection from last Saturday evening on; it will be strong until this Saturday. This alignment reminds us of wounds around relationships or our sense of self-worth. Social situations might feel awkward.
We may experience emotional triggers, so as best as you can, bring compassion and understanding to yourself, to others, and to those past experiences that wounded you. We need to learn to love ourselves, and heal deep fears of being "not good enough". Healing happens much faster when we are open to forgiving and embracing ourselves exactly as we are (and are not).
For those of you who want to have a better understanding of your personal healing journey, feel free to get the recording of my recent Chiron-workshop: "Healing with Astrology" Click here for more info
Do you have your Ascendant, Career Point (or personal planets) in 19-25 degrees of Pisces, Virgo, Gemini or Sagittarius? If so, you will feel this alignment quite strongly. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Taurus or Libra (Venus is the ruler of Taurus and Libra)
Thursday (Jan. 26th): the Moon remains in practical, accomplishment-oriented Capricorn all day (see Tuesday late afternoon for details).
Thursday very early morning,a somewhat challenging Venus/Jupiter aspect becomes exact at 3:02am EST.We started to feel this aspect from Wednesday morning on; it will be strong until Friday evening. This aspect operates more on an internal level. We feel uneasy about something, almost awkward -- and we need to make a choice. An inner awareness needs to be developed in order to see what needs adjusting.
This aspect marks a fork in the road: Will we step onto the spiritual/creative path and sacrifice to serve others with compassion? Or take the path that leads to increased understanding of equality in relationships and balance with our surroundings?
Either way, we can develop a new perspective on how to approach these issues in our one-on-one relationships. Awareness is key with this aspect: What is needed? How can we serve the broader view?
Do you have your Ascendant, Career Point (or personal planets) in 22-24 degrees of Pisces or Libra? If so, you will feel this aspect quite strongly. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Taurus, Libra or Sagittarius (Venus is the ruler of Taurus and Libra; Jupiter is the ruler of Sagittarius).
Thursday night/Friday very early morning at 2:18am EST, we enter a Moon void of course (VoC). that last for a little over 1 hour, until 3:37 am EST. If you are awake during this intuitive time, use it to take a break and tune in: What might an "inspired action" be right now? As always with a Moon VoC, as best as you can, don't start anything brand-new, stick to routine things, or simply go with the flow. You may also want to plan.... ahead of time ;-)
Friday (Jan. 27th) at 3:37am EST,the Moon moves into freedom-loving, forward-thinking Aquarius, where it will journey until Sunday late morning. With this Moon placement, we often feel emotionally detached; when we do connect to our feelings, it's typically from a cerebral, intellectual place. We need a cause or project that resonates -- preferably one where we can connect with like-minded people.
For the next couple of days, we'll tend to be more eccentric or experimental; future-related issues like politics or education call to us now, as do unusual or even esoteric subjects like Astrology, UFOs... indeed anything from outer space. Our scientific approach to things leans on originality and ingenuity; we definitely love being unconventional.
The increased value we place on personal and emotional independence could make us come off as indifferent or cold in one-on-one interactions. That said, we can still be friendly and kind, provided we aren't pushed into doing something conventional or unethical.
Friday early afternoon, a challenging Venus/Saturn aspectbecomes exact at 12:50pm EST. We started to feel this aspect from Tuesday on; it will be strong until Monday evening. This asks us to stretch and grow beyond how we've known ourselves in our relationships up to this point -- a process of maturing that requires we adjust and stay flexible.
On the one hand, we want to make spiritual and/or romantic connections, while going with the flow, feeling our way through. On the other hand, we feel a sharp need to explore “the truth” about ourselves and others — to determine what beliefs align with our own direct experience. Do your best to make space for both of these urges.
We tend to be more cautious when it comes to relationships and finances now -- and in fact, this is not the best time to start a brand-new romantic relationship. Financially though, this aspect can be eye-opening; if we can find creative ways to deal with money, we will grow from it.
The key is to approach things in both realms with intuition and maturity. Pushing doesn't always get us what we want: Sometimes, it’s better to go one step at a time; that way, we can come back later with a stronger approach and more mature expectations.
Do you have your Ascendant, Career Point (or personal planets) in 21-27 degrees of Pisces, Sagittarius, Virgo or Gemini? If so, you will feel this aspect quite strongly. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Taurus, Libra or Sagittarius (Venus is the ruler of Taurus and Libra; Jupiter is the ruler of Sagittarius).
Friday late morning, Mercury leaves its shadow phaseat 15 degrees of Capricorn! We are ready to process (and share) brand-new information. As you may recall from earlier blog entries, if you want to buy, sell or ship big-ticket items, it's best to avoid the shadow periods before and after Mercury goes retrograde.
This is especially true if the items you are thinking about getting are connected to transportation (cars, flight tickets, etc.) or communication (phone, computer, i-pad, etc.) The shadow phase having ended, feel free to buy, sell and book whatever your heart desires Feel free to also read my blog on the subject ;-)
This is especially good news for anyone who has a Gemini or Virgo Sun-sign or Rising sign ;-)
On Friday at 7:07pm EST, the New Moon in 8 degrees of Aquariusbecomes exact. This is not only the beginning of a Moon cycle, it also signals the start of the next Eclipse season; this one lasts until March 12th. I also recommend you watch my New Moon video on the subject
Eclipses are times of uncertainty, Uranian in nature — so anything could happen between now and March 12th. It is important to remember that Eclipses open a door to the next level of our soul's evolution — and the placement of this New Moon (and the Eclipses) relative to our birth charts will tell us which areas of our life will be most affected.
As best as you can, stay both grounded and flexible — and don't jump the gun: If you feel compelled to do something, do your best to simply observe the urge. The exception might be something that just happens organically, but if you are ambivalent about a possible action, better hold off at least until Eclipse Season ends on March 12th.
Eclipses bring major endings and beginnings. As best you can, trust that whatever is leaving is making space for something better -- the more willing we are to change, the easier it will be.
That said, projects and interactions that got underway prior to Eclipse season (i.e. before Jan. 27th) are another matter -- don’t stop your life just because it is Eclipse season ;-)
I will also talk about the upcoming Eclipses in more detail in my next Forecasting Forum. If you want to know how the Eclipses are going to impact you personally, feel free to join us -- we will apply what's coming up, to our own birth charts. The forum is on Feb. 11th at 2pm EST — for more info, click here
With the New Moon in freedom-loving, forward-thinking Aquarius, we have our eye on the future. We see a clear vision for our life and are ready to make huge improvements.
Aquarius also deals with the power of ideals, technology, and inventions. We are interested in the collective and are focused on changing group consciousness: to strive for equality, collaboration, progress.
The Aquarian prompts us to ask: Where am I called to make a difference? What could I, as an individual, do for humanity? And how might group consciousness help humanity make progress?
Every single one of us has a special gift, a spark unique to us; when we access this inner genius and share it with the world, we can make quantum leaps of insight and remarkable collaborations with others. Ask yourself: How does my inner genius communicate? Where does it want to show up?
Venus in Pisces squares Saturn in Sagittarius and conjuncts Chiron & Mars in Pisces. This invites us to stretch a little for the duration of this lunar cycle, to grow beyond what we currently know ourselves to be; we are also called to heal wounds from our past. The key is to approach things with intuition and maturity.
As best as you can, work on self-acceptance and self-compassion; be honest with yourself about your own limitations and expectations towards others. Aim for wholeness, forgiveness, and a courageously open heart when connecting with others. We are being invited to love ourselves and thereby heal deep fears of being "not good enough".
Here are some coaching questions you could ask yourself: What might happen if I embraced myself exactly as I am — and as I am not? Could I at least be open to forgiving myself for having limitations and sensitivities?
"Slow and steady" is the key here -- and it's critical to keep checking our beliefs and maintaining our emotional/spiritual connections. “Pushing" won't get us what we want in these next two week... Sometimes, it’s better to go one step at a time — that way, we can come back later with a stronger approach and more mature expectations. What might that look like for you now?
Uranus, the ruler of Aquarius, is currently in Aries — and is making several aspects: Firstly, it squares Pluto and Mercury in Capricorn; it opposes Jupiter in Libra; and finally, it trines Saturn in Sagittarius.
These aspects are asking us to redefine personal and collective freedom. We are invited to release old patterns, especially around gender, so we can each fulfill our unique role at this critical juncture on Earth.
Much like the 1960’s, we are laying the groundwork for future generations right now; just as was true then, let your vision direct your thoughts and actions, rather than your fear. Simply know that it is possible and that you are contributing.
That said — and somewhat paradoxically -- bringing forth a global consciousness based on freedom, equality and mutual benefit will mean addressing what lurks in the shadows: our unconscious… the suppressed, feared, denied, ignored, shameful, etc.
In other words, the inner work not only continues, it informs and enables the vision.
So, I ask myself (and invite you to do the same): What are my true motivations? If fears were driving me, what might they be? What might shift if I faced those fears -- acknowledged them, brought them out into the open? What if I allowed myself to surrender to my own higher power, or to my passionately pumping, wildly open heart?
Trust your inner truth! When your body feels relaxed and open, you are very probably standing in your truth — and Saturn helps this by supporting a more serious look at our belief systems. This can lead to our admitting and owning where our current path has diverged from the one we walked based on past beliefs.
By definition, a better future pretty much always requires doing different things (or doing things differently), so be ready to correct your course or set a new one...
Is there another path that leads to my goals? What if it were possible to take responsibility and be flexible at the same time? What if I forgave myself for just a moment? Even for limitations I still have… and for fears… maybe even for my phobias... and for all the “stuff” I still carry around (whether from a past life or this one)?
As you can see, we are asked to let go of our fearful past conditioning, especially our scarcity mentality, and instead allow ourselves to be immersed in a vision that calls us to "live into" the highest version of ourselves.
How could Self-care and Self-love support me in this? Could honest conversations with myself and others help me face and embrace my fears and let go of past hurts?
A quick note about self-care, self-support, self-love. Normally, when we say “selfish motivations”, we generally mean those that come from fear — I invite you to reclaim that term for love. Aren’t you as deserving of your love and support as any “external” person? Where might self-love serve you?
We are all agents of change. Already. Always. Right now, our individual capacity to effect change is far greater than we realize — especially for those of us with Uranus, Aquarius, or 11th house planets strongly emphasized in our birth chart — and when we team up with others who also care deeply about creating a better future for this planet and all its life forms, we can create tremendous change.
Again: aim for wholeness, forgiveness — above all, keep a courageously open heart — our light shines all the brighter when all of our authentic self is visible :-)
Do you have your Ascendant (or any personal planets) in one of the following placements: 6-10 degrees of Aquarius, Leo, Taurus, or Scorpio? If so, you may feel the effects of this New Moon more strongly.
The New Moon is also the best time to set some powerful intentions for this month's Moon cycle. This is best done soon after the New Moon becomes exact -- and definitely not during a Moon void of course phase.
So this month, the best time and most potent time to set intentions would be any time between 7:07pm EST Friday evening (Jan. 27th) and 12:52am EST Saturday night/Sunday very early morning (Jan. 29th), and then again from 11:10am until 7:07pm EST on Sunday (Jan. 29th).
This New Moon reminds us that to be fully alive we must stretch, grow, change. So: while writing your intentions, ask yourself: What would it take for me to boldly follow my dreams? Who could I connect with? Again, I also recommend you watch my New Moon video on the subject
Saturday (Jan. 28th): the Moon remains in freedom-loving, forward-thinking Aquarius all day (see Friday very early morning for details).
Friday night/Saturday very early morning, Mars changes signs from sensitive, creative Pisces, to pioneering, enthusiastic Aries.Mars will journey through Aries until March 9th. Mars has an almost two year cycle;Mars last traveled through Aries in March-April 2013. Was there a significant new beginning for you back then?
For those next five and a half weeks, we will have a strong drive for fast forward motion; our first instinct is for action. Spontaneity is an asset, as are simplicity and innovation. We like the fresh start; there will very likely be new ideas, pioneering action and "fresh" projects abounding.
We enjoy challenges with this placement, so we are happy to take on something bigger than usual -- maybe a new, more demanding job or relationship. Our physical energy is great, but we may lose our initial enthusiasm quickly.
We are not likely to beat around the bush now; a direct approach is definitely favored. Things to watch out for: impatience; getting irritated by other people's indirectness; being insensitive to other people's needs or approaches.
Do you have your Ascendant or Sun-sign in Aries? If so, you will feel quite energized by this placement. Your physical energy will be tremendous, you are going to feel unstoppable. The only thing to watch out for: physical burnout.
Also on Saturday, Jupiter starts to slow down (station), preparing for its 4-month retrograde phase. Jupiter will come to a halt on Feb. 6th;its station-phase last until Feb. 14th. We will feel its energy more forcefully during the station-phase.
We start to be more fully aware of Jupiter's energy; this awareness helps us to get more connected to those energies within us. We get to see where we need to embrace them more fully, so that we can use them in a healthy way, without getting lost in the lower vibrations of their expression.
Until Feb.14th, we have to face what this planet is trying to communicate to us: Jupiter represents our desire to seek insight through knowledge. Some of this planet's keywords include: morality; gratitude; hope; honor; the law. Jupiter is the planet of possibility, optimism and growth (including mental and spiritual growth). Jupiter is also associated with a sense of humor, goodwill, and mercy.
The lower expressions of Jupiter include "Oh, the heck with it", "I deserve this and more", "the rules do not apply to me" -- generally speaking: too much of a good thing, blind optimism, excess, stretching the truth, overindulgence.
Those of us who have any of our personal planets (or our Ascendent) in 21-25 degrees of Libra, Aries, Cancer or Capricorn will be more affected by this station; as will those of us who have their Ascendent or Sun-sign in Sagittarius (Jupiter is the ruler of Sagittarius, so those folks will always be affected more strongly by Jupiter's movements and aspects).
Also: if you haven't set your New Moon Intentionsyet, today (Saturday) all day is still time to do so during the most potent time... If you'd like some input on how to do that, check out this article: http://goo.gl/klCcph -- you could also (re-)watch my New Moon video
Sunday (Jan. 29th): the Moon remains in freedom-loving, forward-thinking Aquarius until 11:10am EST (see Friday very early morning for details).
Saturday night/Sunday very early morning at 12:52am EST we enter a Moon void of course (VoC). that lasts a little over 10 hours, until 11:10am EST. This is an intuitive time that presents an opportunity to connect to innovative ideas and unique world-views -- so if you can, connect with like-minded people and explore new commitments.
As always with a Moon VoC, as best as you can, don't start anything brand-new, stick to routine things, or simply go with the flow. You may also want to plan your Sunday morning ahead of time ;-)
Sunday at 11:10am EST,the Moon moves into creative, sensitive Pisces, where it will journey until Tuesday afternoon. This Moon placement often finds us more sensitive, intuitive, idealistic and imaginative than normal. We also have a greater capacity for compassion, sympathy and affection for all -- but especially for those who suffer or can be regarded as the underdog.
But... that very idealism could also be our downfall at this time: We tend to see the best in everyone and everything, and when reality doesn't match our idyllic vision, we might feel upset and even victimized by those harsh realities. A way out of this is to channel our idealism into spiritual or creative endeavors.
It's also a great time for releasing fears -- especially the ones based on a sense of separation -- and experiencing "oneness". Feelings tend to flow more freely; as best as you can, let them -- in fact, "going with the flow" is the best way to go for the next couple of days.
Sunday afternoon, a Mercury/Pluto alignment in 18 degrees of Capricorn becomes exact at 3:21pm EST. We started to feel this aspect from Friday on; it will be strong until next week Wednesday (it might feel familiar: thanks to Mercury's retrograde phase, this close alignment to Pluto also happened back in December).
We are invited to look back to Dec. 15th - 21st: What long-term plans (aligned with something we feel deeply passionate about) were we thinking about?
With this alignment, an all-or-nothing attitude is very likely. We have tremendous mental focus — which could tip into obsession. Choose love over fear whenever possible. Connect to the things you feel passionate about -- and connect to others, empowering them with your passions. As best as you can, choose your words carefully -- if possible, speak from that deeply connected and empowered place.
Do you have your Ascendent, Career Point (or any personal planets) in 15-21 degrees of Capricorn, Aries, Libra or Cancer? If so, you may feel more connected to this alignment. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Gemini, Virgo or Scorpio (Mercury is the ruler of Gemini and Virgo; Pluto rules Scorpio)
Also: last chance set your New Moon Intentionsduring the most potent time, if you haven't done so yet: from 11:10am until 7:07pm EST on Sunday. If you'd like some input on how to do that, check out this article: http://goo.gl/klCcph -- you could also (re-)watch my New Moon video
A head's up for next Monday (Jan. 30th): the Moon remains in creative, sensitive Pisces all day (see Sunday late morning for details). Reaching 27 degrees of Pisces, Venus enters her shadow phase today; more about all the details in next week’s forecast ;-)
